For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love. Ephesians 4.1-2

Confession of Sin
Our Father, we admit that, all too often, we do not walk worthy of the Gospel. All too often, we are proud and not humble, harsh and not gentle. We so easily become impatient, refusing to bear with the weaknesses and sins of others. We sin in these ways even as we expect others not to treat us similarly. We have no excuse and admit that we deserve Your justice. But we believe the Gospel of Jesus. And so, we would ask for forgiveness. We would also ask for change. Make us more like Jesus, through whom we pray. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD. though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. Isaiah 1.18

The Lord enrich you with his grace, and nourish you with his blessing; the Lord defend you in trouble and keep you from all evil; the Lord accept your prayers, and absolve you from your offences, for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Saviour.

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6.9-10

Confession of Sin
Our Father, we hear Your call to persevere in doing good. And yet, we have to admit that we, at times, give in to the weariness and stop. We give up when it gets too hard. This is disobedience. This is sin. We ask that You would forgive us this sin. We ask that You would give us the ability to continue to do what is good to others, even when it gets hard. We ask that You would remind us that there will be a time of reaping, if we do not give up. We ask this through our faithful Savior, Jesus. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy. Proverbs 28.13

May the Father forgive us by the death of his Son and strengthen us to live in the power of the Spirit all our days.
The Book of Common Prayer

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6.2

Confession of Sin
Our Father, Your Word is clear. We are to be involved in each other’s lives. We are to be careful to notice when someone is in need. We are to help each other to bear the burdens You place on us. And yet, it is so easy for us to be concerned just for ourselves. It is so easy to neglect the others who are here. It is so easy not to care. Forgive us for this sin. Teach us to care for one another, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Jeremiah 31:34

May the God of love and power forgive you and free you from your sins, heal and strengthen you by his Spirit, and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord.
The Book of Common Prayer

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. it is not irritable or resentful. 2 Corinthians 5.14-15

Confession of Sin
Our Father, we know the teaching of the Scriptures and do sincerely confess that Jesus is Lord over our lives. But we too often find ourselves living for ourselves. We too often look to our own desires and goals in order to decide what we will do. In times like these we fail to submit to Jesus’ gracious lordship over our lives. We ask that you would forgive us this sin. We ask that, more and more, we would gladly submit to Jesus’ lordship and in this way experience a fullness of life that will bring honor to You. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
Remember these things, O Jacob, and Israel, for you are my servant; I formed you; you are my servant; O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me. I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud and your sins like mist; return to me, for I have redeemed you. Isaiah 44:21-22

May the Father of all mercies cleanse us from our sins, and restore us in his image to the praise and glory of his name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The Book of Common Prayer

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
Love is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful. 1 Corinthians 13.4-5

Confession of Sin
Our Father, we need to confess to You that we do not love as You command. We insist on our own way. And when we don’t get our way we often become irritable. We resent it. We know, Father, that for sins like these we deserve Your justice. We deserve hell. But again, we plead the blood of Jesus. Forgive us, we pray. And make us into people who truly love. For Jesus’ sake.  Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace. Ephesians 1.7

May almighty God, who sent his Son into the world to save sinners, bring you his pardon and peace, now and for ever.
The Book of Common Prayer

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
Love is patient and kind. 1 Corinthians 13.4

Confession of Sin
Our Father, Your Law reminds us of the times when we have been anything but patient with others. We remember the times when we were irritated with them and complained to ourselves and sometimes to others about them. We stand convicted by Your Law. We are so grateful that Your love for us is a patient love. We humbly ask that You would once again forgive us our sin. We are so bold to ask again for this forgiveness only because of Jesus, our faithful Savior. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

God, the Father of mercies, has reconciled the world to himself through the death and resurrection of his Son, Jesus Christ, not counting our trespasses against us, but sending his Holy Spirit to shed abroad his love among us. By the ministry of reconciliation entrusted by Christ to his Church, receive his pardon and peace to stand before him in his strength alone, this day and evermore.

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. 1 Corinthians 10.14

Confession of Sin
Our Father, to our shame, we admit that we have idols. They are not idols of stone that can be seen but rather idols of the heart which are hidden. But You see them. All too often we look to them instead of looking to You. We ask that You would reveal them all to us. We ask that You would free us from their slavery. We ask that You would forgive us this great sin. We ask this in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.  But the father said to his servants, Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to celebrate. Luke 15:18-24

May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. 1 Corinthians 6.19-20

Confession of Sin
Our Father, we assume that our bodies are our own, to care for or not as we please. But Your Word is clear. They are not ours but Yours. Forgive us for not caring for what is Yours. Give us the desire and ability to do better at this. We ask this through Jesus, our faithful Savior. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, “‘Return, faithless Israel, declares the LORD. I will not look on you in anger, for I am merciful, declares the LORD; I will not be angry forever. Jeremiah 3:12

Almighty God, who in Jesus Christ has given us a kingdom that cannot be destroyed, forgive us our sins, open our eyes to God's truth, strengthen us to do God's will and give us the joy of his kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,” and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” 1 Corinthians 3.18-20

Confession of Sin
Our Father, we confess that we fall into the trap of thinking of ourselves as wise in this age. It is a goal that has been placed before us, and we have pursued it. In this we have ignored what You have said about the futility of the wisdom of this world. We have sinned against You. We humbly ask for Your forgiveness of our sin. We also ask that You would enable us to gain true wisdom even if it means looking foolish in the eyes of others. We are bold to ask this only because of Jesus, our wise Savior. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared. Psalm 130.3-4

The almighty and merciful Lord grant you pardon and forgiveness of all your sins, time for amendment of life, and the grace and strength of the Holy Spirit.
The Book of Common Prayer

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” Romans 12.17-19

Confession of Sin
Our Father, when we are wronged it is so easy for us to think in terms of defense and not peace, of asserting ourselves and not leaving the matter to You. We are so quick to protect our ‘rights’. In this we sin, and so often we fail to realize it. Forgive us. Change our hearts so that we might become more like Jesus. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. Psalm 103.8-12

May the God of love bring us back to himself, forgive us our sins, and assure us of his eternal love in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Declaration of Pardon
Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD," and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.  Psalm 32.1-2,5

May God our Father forgive us our sins, and bring us to the fellowship of his table with his saints for ever.

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12.1-2

Confession of Sin
Our Father, we hear Your Law, and again it exposes our sin. We recognize that we are so like our unbelieving neighbors. We conform so much to the world around us. We are so little like the living sacrifices You call for. We are so little like Jesus. In these things we have sinned. We ask that You would forgive our sin. We ask that You would renew our minds. Make us more like Jesus and less like the faithless who live in this world. We ask this only through Jesus, our faithful Savior. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life. 1 John 5:12-13

May God who loved the world so much that he sent his Son to be our Saviour forgive us our sins and make us holy to serve him in the world, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The Book of Common Prayer

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

Confession of Sin
Our Father, we confess that far too often we hear the Word but do not do it. This is very foolish. This is very sinful. We ask that You would forgive us this sin. We ask that You would make us wise. We ask that You would make us obedient. We ask this in the name of our faithful Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 1 Peter 2:10

May the God of love and power forgive you and free you from your sins, heal and strengthen you by his Spirit, and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord.
The Book of Common Prayer

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. Matthew 7.13-14

Confession of Sin
Our Father, forgive us when we complain about the difficulties of living as faithful disciples in this fallen world. Our Lord Jesus told us that the way to life would be hard. Forgive us and convince our hearts that the difficulties are more than worth it since this is the way by which we will gain eternal life.

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! Matthew 7.7-11

Confession of Sin
Our Father, once again we come upon an invitation to pray. We come upon another promise to encourage us to be confident in our prayers. And yet, we are so slow to believe You. We are slow to be bold in our prayers. What is this but unbelief? We ask that You would forgive our sinful doubt. We ask that You would change us. Make us into people who pray because we believe Your promises. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,

May the Father of all mercies cleanse us from our sins, and restore us in his image to the praise and glory of his name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The Book of Common Prayer

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. Matthew 7.1-5

Confession of Sin
Our Father, we are very good at noticing the sins of others. We are quick to be critical of them while excusing ourselves. We see their specks and miss our logs. And we get so upset when someone mentions any of our sins. How sad. It must grieve your Spirit greatly when we act this way. Please forgive us and change us for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

May almighty God, who sent his Son into the world to save sinners, bring you his pardon and peace, now and for ever.

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air. They neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Matthew 6.25-30

Confession of Sin
Our Father, we live among a people who are very anxious. And sometimes we act like them. We act like them when we do not believe You when You tell us that You will meet our every need. We recognize that our lack of trust is a great insult to You. It is only because of what Jesus has done that we are so bold to ask You to forgive this offense. We also ask that You would change us so that we would always believe You and Your great promises of love. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. 1 Timothy 1.15

May the God of all healing and forgiveness draw us to himself, and cleanse us from all our sins that we may behold the glory of his Son, the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ our Lord.
The Book of Common Prayer

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6.19-21

Confession of Sin
Our Father, Your Law exposes our hearts. So much of what we treasure is tied to this world. This is short-sighted since all this will pass away. But it is worse than that. It is evil since You are to be our chief treasure. Forgive us for insulting You in this way. Change our hearts so that we may value You most. We ask this through Jesus, our Redeemer.

You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5.43-48

Confession of Sin
Our Father, once again Your Law points out our sin. We find it easy to love those who love us back. But Your Law requires more. It requires us to love those who do not love us back but rather want to harm us. We find that so hard to do. But that is no excuse. Our failure to do this is sin. And so, we ask again for the forgiveness that Jesus provided for us by His life and death. We also ask that Your Spirit might do His powerful work in our lives so that we might love as You love. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures 1 Corinthians 15.3

May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
If you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Matthew 5.23-24

Confession of Sin
Our Father, we do not recognize how evil it is to fail to be reconciled to each other. All too often we fail to deal with sins against each other. We fail to resolve problems that separate us. We try to ignore these problems instead of trying to solve them. We stand condemned. We ask that You might forgive us this sin by the blood of Jesus’ Cross. Please teach us the ways of right living in our families and in our church so that the world might see the fruit of the Gospel in our lives. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. Romans 8.1,2

Almighty God, who in Jesus Christ has given us a kingdom that cannot be destroyed, forgive us our sins, open our eyes to God's truth, strengthen us to do God's will and give us the joy of his kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
