Father,
It is so good that
we are able to get to know You. Bit by bit, as the Spirit perfects His ministry
among us, we are coming to understand better who You are.
We are grateful that
You have revealed Yourself as the God of justice. There is right, and there is
wrong. You are the one who has determined what that means. And You are the one
who enforces what that means.
But, Father, we live
in a very unjust world. Your definitions of right and of wrong are flagrantly
ignored. And so, we not only have murders and adulteries and the lust for
power, but such things are freely encouraged by those who set the tone in our
society. The world around us is following the way of evil, going further and
further down that path.
There have been
times, and there will be times, when we are affected by this injustice.
Sometimes it is just fallout from actions that had their focus somewhere else
and not us. But there have been, and will be, times when we are the target,
when someone inflicts some injustice specifically on us.
It’s one thing when
we have some recourse in such situations. It helps to know that there is
something that we can do, whether to involve the police or take the matter to
court or something like that. What is difficult is when there is no recourse, and we’re stuck with
simply enduring the injustice.
Father, when those
situations strike, we ask that You would remind us that there will be justice.
There has to be. And that is because You are the God of justice. The day will
come when every injustice will be dealt with. The day will come when there will
be no injustice at all. We ask, Father, that You would give us the faith to trust
You in those situations and the patience to simply await Your timing. That can
be hard when our sense of right and wrong demands action but there is nothing
that we can do. Grant us Your grace so that we will wait.
This is also a part
of being a Christian. And it can be a way of glorifying You before a watching
world. Grant us what we need for this so that there would be those who seeing
the fruit of the Gospel in our lives, would be drawn to Jesus. Amen.
