For Sunday

Reading of the Law of God
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world – the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions – is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2.15-17

Confession of Sin
Our Father, we feel the pull of the world. We find ourselves fooled by its allure. We think that the world and what it offers will last. Forgive us our folly in this. It is a great sin against You.  Make clear to our hearts that loving the world is turning away from You. Teach us that loving You and Your ways is the path to life,  to the fullness of joy  and to pleasures forevermore. Please grant us our request for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
God, the Father of mercies, has reconciled the world to himself through the death and resurrection of his Son, Jesus Christ, not counting our trespasses against us, but sending his Holy Spirit to shed abroad his love among us. By the ministry of reconciliation entrusted by Christ to his Church, receive his pardon and peace to stand before him in his strength alone, this day and evermore.
The Book of Common Prayer

Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53.4-5
