Being a Disciple of Jesus

There are aspects of being a disciple of Jesus that need to be re-emphasized these days. 

To follow Jesus will include suffering. Here consider Ezekiel who was a faithful prophet. As a means to communicate to Israel, God kills Ezekiel's wife, something that Ezekiel is not to mourn as a message to the people of Israel (Ezekiel 24.15ff.). 

It will also include willing submission to what one is called to. Here consider Job who said, 'The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.' (Job 1.21) 

But then, hope is also included. And this hope does not merely look to this life but also to the age to come. That is when Jesus will fully reward His faithful disciples. (Psalm 19.11)
