The psalmist is
clear. He is asking God to bless Israel. But he is also clear about why he is
asking for that blessing. It all turns on the word 'that'.
that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations.
You might call this
an evangelistic psalm. Our author wants God's amazing ways known and
acknowledged among all the peoples of the earth, all the nations. And that's
why he asks God to bless him and the rest of the saints. You might paraphrase
his thought like this: 'Bless us so that we will be a blessing to those who are
all around us so that they would join us in worshiping You.' Good thought.
