Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him,
and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as
the light, and your justice as the noonday. Psalms 37:5-6
The first thing to
do in considering the command of this verse is to admit that doing this is
hard. Entrusting yourself to someone, anyone, is hard. We all have been taught,
by words and examples, to depend on ourselves. Some have been able to push back
against that, learning how to entrust themselves to someone else. But it's an
uphill battle. So, entrusting ourselves to God, really committing ourselves to
Him, is not going to be easy.
But it's doable.
The solution,
though, isn't to try to talk ourselves into doing this. That won't work. That's
just depending on ourselves to deal with our sin. Salvation by our works. The
solution is bound up with God's grace. And that starts by freely admitting that
we can't do this, admitting that first to ourselves and then to God. This is
the kind of prayer that the Father loves to hear. And as He does hear it, He
promises to act. Blessings will follow.
