Father,
We live in a word
that is filled with evil, evil people doing evil things. And so much of the
evil that we hear about and read about these days is so vile. The things that used to
restrain such evil have been removed. It all seem to be going from bad to
worse. And behind it all Satan stands as the master evildoer. His greatest
desire is to do all that he can to ruin what You have created. And he has been
quite successful. Even just a quick read of the news reveals much of his
success. But we can't just point at others. We are not untouched by Satan's
schemes. Sadly, we also do evil.
All of this would be
so thoroughly depressing, even leading to despair except for one thing. Jesus
has come.
Jesus has come to
deal with Satan. He has confronted him and, at the Cross, has defeated him. So,
now Jesus has the upper hand. Now, Jesus is taking evildoers and changing them
into saints. And He is changing saints so that more and more we do what is good
and right and beautiful instead of the evil that we are fooled into committing.
We thank You,
Father, for this note of hope. Things look bad, especially at times, but the
Savior has come. Evil will be destroyed. Jesus' first Advent will inevitably
lead to His second Advent. And then, all of this will be changed.
Help us, Father, to
cling to this note of hope. Help us never to give in to the temptations of
despair. Help us to believe the Gospel. Jesus has come to deal with the evil.
And help us Father
to do our part as the Church of Jesus, the Savior. There are things that He
wants us to do so that there would be many, many more who would be changed from
evildoers to saints. Help us, by Your Spirit, so that we would know what Jesus wants
us to do and then we would do them so that the beauty that You have intended for Your
creation would be restored. Through Christ our Lord Amen.
