Life is filled with - defined by? -
disappointments; what could have been but is not. There are the large
disappointments. For me, that means the many ways in which I was not as good a
husband to my wife as I could have been, along with the fact that she is no
longer here. And then, there are the little disappointments, everyday sorts of
things. These aren’t about large issues, but are rather little annoyances,
pebbles that find their way into your shoe. And every life – even every
day – has its fill of such things.
It is trying to
ignore these disappointments that is an impediment to Christians living well,
Christians developing into pious people. Ignoring the reality of our situation
encourages us to hope for more than what this life can deliver. It is an
impediment to letting this life go in the hope of gaining the next which is far
better, a time and a place where there are no disappointments.
Whoever loves his
life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for
eternal life. Jesus
