Scripture to Meditate on This Week

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20

The thing that I'd like to point out about this sentence is the pronouns, particularly the last two pronouns. It would make sense for Paul to write about Jesus, 'who loved us and gave himself for us'. He's certainly done that kind of thing elsewhere. But here, it's different. He wants to stress that Jesus loved him.

It is too easy for the Gospel to become a set of religious truths that we hold to, a philosophy of life. It's too easy to miss that this is actually about this person we know and who knows us. We each can repeat Paul's words about Jesus 'who loved me and gave himself for me'. Seeing it that way makes a difference.
