Scripture to Meditate on This Week

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

Here are a few things that I took away from this verse.

  1. Temptations are a part of life in a fallen world. We sometimes label them as problems. But what are problems but situations where we are tempted to fail to believe some word from God.
  2. Our problems are not unique to us. They are only variations on some theme. Whatever temptations we face, untold numbers of Christians have also faced them through the centuries. This is so very helpful because it gives us hope. Whatever it is that I face others have faced, and just as they overcame these things, by God's grace, I can also.
  3. Here's the key to our success: God is faithful. He metes out temptations with care, aware of our particular situation and limitations. We never have to deal with some problem that is completely beyond us.
  4. There is always a good way to deal with the temptation. Always. And because of that we are able to endure it.
