Psalm 45
The last phrase of
the Hebrew title captures the point of this Psalm: 'A Love Song'. Our psalmist
is writing about a couple, the king and his soon-to-be bride.
He first addresses
the king. He describes the many ways that God has blessed him and will bless
him.
He then addresses
the soon-to-be queen. Using poetic overstatement, he calls her to be devoted to
her husband in order to look forward to great blessings that will come from
this marriage.
This is a love song,
but it more than a love song for some Israelite king and his bride. This is a
love song for Jesus, the promised King, and His bride, the Church.
