A Prayer

We praise You, Father, because You have blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing.

Because of this, whatever is going on in our lives, the good, the bad, the horrendous, we know that You are still right there next to us, loving us in that situation.

This is such a great encouragement, especially when what is going on in our lives is really hard. Though tempted to think otherwise, we know that whatever is going on, it's still an expression of your love.

You haven't forgotten about us.

You didn't make a mistake in what has happened.

You aren't preoccupied.

Whatever is going on in our lives, we know that it comes from Your loving heart. What a blessing it is for us to know that.

And then, there are the times when we blow it. Once again, we've done something stupid. And we know that we've done something stupid. We feel horrible. But You never throw that back in our face, all disgusted with us. You just never do that.

No, instead You reach out to us and draw us back to Yourself to enjoy one of Your glorious hugs. If anyone should be repulsed by so many of the things that we do, it should be You. But You're not. You forgive.

And it's not as if You forgive reluctantly. No, You are eager to forgive.

And then, in ways that mystify us, You take our sin and use it for good in our lives and in the lives of those around us. In this, You redeem even our sins.

Knowing these things makes such a difference for us, Father. It gives us hope.

And it's not just that You deal with our now. You point us to the future and tell us that what awaits is simply amazing. You have made astounding promises about what happens after all of this is over.

You tell us that life will be better than our greatest dreams.

You tell us that the issues that confront us now will be solved and gone.

You tell us the many foolish ways that we look at life now, ways that cause such problems, all of that foolishness will be history, replaced with glorious wisdom.

You paint a beautiful picture of the future, and You then tell us that it is most certainly ours. In this You give us the encouragement that we need to keep on going, and there are times when we really need that.

As we consider who You are to us and what You have done for us we are struck dumb.

We praise You, Father, and thank You, through Christ our Lord Amen.
