Father,
You are the one, true and living God who does amazing things.
As winter turns to spring we see the plants sprouting, the trees beginning to bloom, and wildlife awakens out of a long sleep. Some claim to know how this all happens. They speak of cycles and chemical reactions and such. But they can explain only the process, not the cause. You are the cause. You make all of this happen.
And as we look at ourselves, what are we? A bit of flesh of one person was joined with a bit of flesh of another person and we showed up. Again, some claim to be able to explain how people have come to be. But only You can explain it. Only You can create immortal souls.
Then, there are Your works of redemption. We all were lost sinners, rebels without a clue about how life is really to be lived, doomed to end up forever confronted by Your justice. But You sent Jesus. And now we are sons and daughters of the most high God. We now know that our lives matter, that by Your kindness we have a purpose. You give us a reason to live. And we will be blessed to forever experience Your favor in ways that we simply cannot imagine.
Father, You are the one, true and living God who does amazing things.
But, sadly, all too often we miss what You are doing. Slow us down. Teach us to stop and to look. Teach us to see the beauty of what You are doing in our world and in our lives. Give us eyes that see Your amazing works. Grant this to us so that we would better understand who You are, so that we would grow in our sense of wonder at You. Slow us down, make us look so that we would see You and be overwhelmed by what You have done and what You are doing. Grant that we might get to know You better so that we will marvel.
There are many reasons for us to ask for this. Here is but one. We ask for this so that our worship would go deeper, much deeper. Help us to see Your wondrous works so that we would be awed by You and would respond with worship that is more worthy of who You are.
We thank You, Father, that You are the God who hears our prayers. You have heard this prayer. So, we look forward to seeing You grant our request.
And we ask all of this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
who alone does wondrous things.
who alone does wondrous things.
Psalms 72.18
