Every church is a collection of people each of whom has lots of issues that need to be dealt with. There are stubborn sin habits that dog their steps, fears that loom, differences with other people in the congregation, doubts about God, lots of questions and the list goes on. What epistle didn't have to spend at least some time on some problem in the church or individual that it was sent to? The Church, every church, our church, is a bunch of people with issues. And yet, God's method of changing the world has the Church at its heart. The Church is like a drunken sailor desperately trying to get from the stern to the bow of the ship he's on - and he's trying to do that in the midst of a tremendous storm. So, he stumbles to one side of the ship and then to the other and in the process moves forward but one step. Sometimes he is thrown back a few feet and falls on his face. He gets up and once again strains to the bow, being tossed this way and that. But the fact of the matter is that the day will come when the Church will complete the task given to it by her Lord. One day this collection of sorry saints will reach the bow. And the world will have been changed.
