A Daily Prayer

It is my habit to offer this prayer as part of my morning devotions. I believe it's from the Book of Common Prayer.
Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought me in safety to this new day: Preserve me with your mighty power, that I may not fall into sin nor be overcome by adversity; in all I do direct me to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
Now, I am of the opinion that this is a really good prayer to offer up to the Father each morning. It is, first, an acknowledgement of His kindness in giving me another day here. It also has some requests - two to be exact. The first is an appeal for His protection from sin and evil - something I am clearly in need of. This is something that He can do because of His 'mighty power'. Then, there is the request that He direct me so that I might do my part in seeing His purpose for creation accomplished. And that is something that I greatly desire to do. So, if God hears all my prayers and responds to them with love and wisdom - and He does because He promised He would - then this strikes me as the right prayer to pray.
