A 'Whole Bible Church'

There are quite a variety of things that can distinguish one church from another. Some of these things are just a matter of different styles. But there are some things that are more significant. Here's one thing that distinguishes our church from some others. We are a 'Whole Bible Church'. That may sound odd, so let me insert here how some other churches describe themselves. They tell us that they are a 'New Testament Church'. And by that they are saying that they follow what the New Testament has to say about being a church. Our church isn't like that. Our church uses the whole Bible to determine how we are to be a church. I am not being snarky by saying this. Those other churches really mean what they are saying about themselves. And saying that makes a difference. It's because we look to what the whole the Bible has to say about being a church that we worship in the way that we do, that I preach in the way that I do and that we celebrate the Lord's Supper and baptism in the way that we do. It affects things like how we disciple the children in our congregation and what conversion is about. Being a 'whole Bible church' affects lots of things. My point is not to be nasty and belittle other churches. Not in the least. There are many 'New Testament churches' that are working hard to follow Jesus. That's why we're all on the same team. But I do think that it is helpful for those of us who are Reformed and Presbyterian to understand who we are and why we do what we do. We are a 'Whole Bible Church'.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. 2 Timothy 3:16
