After the sermon on Isaiah 44, 'Renewed By the Spirit', this question was raised. ‘What is abundant life?’ I think that questioner was assuming that such a life is somehow always being ‘up’, consistently and easily overcoming problems and being happy – or something like that. But the abundant life includes being down at times because it is obvious that life here is not good enough. The abundant life includes the yearning for the age to come with all of the pain that goes with that.
