John's Gospel - 2

John 1.6-8

John (the Baptist) is named and his name means: 'Yahweh is gracious'. After his name is given his role is given. He came to be a witness to the light. Is this a legal witness based in Mosaic Law? His role was to be the means by which 'all' would 'believe'. Why 'all', especially since it is not literally true? And the goal is not discipleship nor obedience but faith - or does faith include those other two?
