I was chatting with Adiel about home schooling and out of that came this thought.
The goal of education is not to make sure that the next generation will have sufficient skills to be able to get a job that pays well. The goal of education is for our children to be captured by the wonder of God. They should be awed by who He is and what He has done in creating all of this, in governing it all the way that He does and in redeeming it. The older generations need to work hard so that the younger generation develops a curiosity about life. They need to learn how to ask insightful questions about everything – and then to be able to work toward an answer. They need to learn how to think. And at the very heart of education is showing how everything will make sense only if it is seen in terms of Jesus.
